Large 345-room family hotel, right on the water at the eastern end of Migjorn beach.
Fully renovated and reopened at the end of April 2025, it has moved up to 4-star superior (Riu Palace range).
For children: RIU Land Kids Club, a dedicated pool and a multi-sports court.
The official website lists it on half board (breakfast and dinner): check which meal plan is included before confirming.
14 km from La Savina port: plan on a car or scooter to get around.
Riu Palace La Mola is one of the few hotels in Formentera that goes for the big-resort formula. You come here for the beach on the doorstep, the pools and a supervised kids’ club, not for the intimacy of a guesthouse. After its first full renovation since RIU bought it in 1973, the hotel has a new look: a bigger lobby, refurbished rooms and a new à la carte restaurant.
Where is Riu Palace La Mola?
The hotel sits at Mar y Land, at the eastern end of Migjorn beach, in the Es Arenals area, below the La Mola plateau. Beach access is direct, with no road to cross. The flip side: you are far from the port and the lively villages, so transport needs thinking about as soon as you book.
This end of Migjorn is the wildest stretch of the south coast, and you are not far from Es Caló either, a place I really like. It is ideal with children too. The decor is incredible, and it has everything: the beach, the coves and the hotel’s facilities.
Sonia, VoyageIF
A bus stop is about fifty metres away, with connections to Sant Francesc and Es Pujols in high season. Handy for an outing, but to tour the beaches, renting a car or scooter is still easier, with details in our guide to getting around Formentera.
My tip if you stay here: head down to Es Caló for breakfast at least once. I had tapas at Es Caló restaurant, facing the cove, and it makes a change from the buffet.
Rooms, bungalows and suites
All 345 rooms have been refurbished, some enlarged. Light decor, wood, bathroom with walk-in shower, and a balcony or terrace in most categories. For a family of 4, go for the bungalows with a separate bedroom and lounge: you avoid all sleeping in the same room. Couples will rather pick a sea-view junior suite, or one of the 8 suites.
Pools, spa and Kids Club
Four pools in all: three for adults and one just for children. The outdoor pools look onto the beach, and the sun deck gained Balinese beds during the renovation. For wellness, the spa (with indoor pool and jets) and the gym have been redone.
For families, this is the real selling point. The RIU Land Kids Club offers supervised activities, with an indoor room, outdoor games and a multi-sports court in the shade of the pines. In the evening, the hotel puts on shows on the new terrace stage. Restaurants, bars and meal plans
Three restaurants since the renovation:
Sargantana, the main buffet restaurant, for breakfast and dinner;
Krystal, the gourmet à la carte restaurant, added during the works;
Ilios, the seaside snack bar, for a quick lunch between swims.
For bars, there is a lobby bar, a terrace lounge bar and a pool bar. Watch the meal plan: the RIU website lists half board, not all inclusive. Drinks and lunch may therefore be added to the bill. Depending on dates and platform, other meal plans sometimes appear: read the “meals included” line before paying.
Who is it for?
Families with children: club, children’s pool, beach with no road to cross.
Travellers who want everything on site: spa, restaurants, entertainment, without getting back in the car in the evening.
Beach lovers: Migjorn stretches for several kilometres, so finding space is easy.
Couples looking for intimacy: with 345 rooms, you are better off looking at our Formentera boutique hotels.
Travellers without a vehicle who want to go out in the evening: Es Pujols is 11 km away. To choose the right village, read where to stay in Formentera.

Getting there
Fly to Ibiza, then take the ferry to La Savina (about 30 minutes on the fast ferry), then 14 km by road to the hotel.
By car: directions from La Savina port (14 km, 20 to 25 minutes: follow the PM-820 towards La Mola lighthouse, via Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran, then turn right onto Carrer Maryland about 700 m after Es Caló) or directions from your location.
