Nomade Temple Ibiza: review of the new bohemian 5-star
Nomade Temple Ibiza opened on 23 June 2026 in Portinatx, in the north of the island, on the ruins of the former BG Portinatx Beach Club. A bohemian 5-star designed by Bjarke Ingels, set above a private cove. After a first summer, everyone agrees on the setting: here is what you need to know before booking.
Key points
A 5-star with 182 rooms, suites, lofts and villas, terraced above a private cove in Portinatx.
6.0/10 on Booking from 52 reviews (October 2026): superb setting, service still finding its feet.
Free yoga, meditation and sound healing programme for guests, spa with hammam.
33 km from the airport: plan on a car or a taxi, as Ibiza Town is almost an hour’s drive away.
Who it suits: couples looking for design and peace, ideally outside July and August.
The hotel occupies the hillside above S’Arenal Petit, in Portinatx, the northern tip of the island. The north is the wildest part of Ibiza: pine forests, cliffs, little nightlife. The flip side is the distance from the south and its clubs.
I was in Portinatx in summer 2025, in the middle of construction: there was no escaping the cranes and lorries all over the hillside. I know this area very well: the view is incredible, the cove stunning and very intimate. I have not slept at the hotel yet, but for this corner of the north, I have no doubts.
Sonia, VoyageIF
To get around, a hire car is still the simplest: take the mountain roads carefully at night. Otherwise, a taxi is enough if you plan to stay at the hotel or in the area. Free private parking on site. The north is covered in our guide where to stay in Ibiza.
What the first guests say
On Booking, the scores by category sum up this first summer well (52 reviews, checked in October 2026):
What guests like
The decor and the view, praised even in the harshest reviews.
The private cove and its beach restaurant, the big pool.
The food at Ku Juu, the Japanese restaurant on the terrace.
The yoga classes and the relaxed atmosphere.
What falls short
Service still finding its feet.
A limited breakfast choice.
Small rooms for a 5-star, even the junior suites.
Non-stop music around the pool.
A first summer is often tough for a hotel of this size, and the property does reply to negative reviews. Reread the comments from the last few weeks when you book.
Rooms and living spaces
182 keys in all: studios with a terrace, junior suites and sea-facing suites, artists’ lofts with a production space, villas with a pool and rooftop. The decor channels the spirit of the 1970s: wood, terracotta, arched alcoves, Berber rugs. It is absolutely gorgeous. Every room has a balcony, some with a sea view.
Wellness: yoga, spa and sound healing
It is the heart of the project. The daily programme (yoga, meditation, sound healing) is free for guests, and GÖN House of Healing offers treatments and a hammam. A recording studio also hosts artists in residence. The difference from Six Senses Ibiza, in Xarraca, lies in this creative angle: Six Senses focuses on pure wellbeing.
Restaurants and evenings
Caleta Restaurant & Beach Club, in the private cove, for lunch by the water: the most spectacular spot in the resort.
Ku Juu, the Japanese restaurant on the terrace, guests’ favourite.
Dante’s HiFi, the listening bar with vinyl-lined walls, which comes alive after midnight.
Café Libre for everyday meals and an omakase bar for sushi in the evening.
Live music sessions at sunset facing the bay.
A project by Bjarke Ingels
Nomade People did not demolish the old BG Portinatx: the Oneness studio, co-founded by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, reused the existing structures with local materials (white stone, juniper wood, terracotta). As much a necessity as a choice: the north of Sant Joan de Labritja is one of the most protected areas on the island.
Behind the project are Antonio de la Rúa, founder of the Nomade Temples in Tulum and Holbox in Mexico, and Barry Sternlicht, co-founder of Starwood Capital and creator of W Hotels. In August 2026, the hotel held a “Sacred Sun” week around the solar eclipse.
Who is it for?
Couples looking for a design setting and a bohemian vibe, far from the clubs.
Yoga and wellness lovers, with the free programme.
Those who want a cove at the foot of the hotel in the wild north.
Those expecting flawless palace-level service.
Those who want to go out at night in Ibiza Town or Playa d’en Bossa.
Families looking for a kids’ club: there is nothing for them.
