Key points
- For a stay as a couple, head north: Portinatx, Sant Miquel, Benirràs. It is less busy than the west, with spa hotels facing the sea, good restaurants and sunsets without the Cala Conta crowds.
- The Es Vedrà sunset is now watched from Cala d’Hort beach or from a boat. Torre des Savinar and the viewpoint have been closed to the public since February 2025.
- Best time: June or September. The sea is between 22 and 26 °C and prices are lower than in August. Book the massage, the seafront dinner and the sailing trip ahead.
Since my first stay on the island in 2010, several have been as a couple. Almost every time, we ended up heading north. Around Portinatx, the cliffs drop into very clear water. In the evening, the terraces are half empty, while at the same time Cala Conta looks like an open-air concert. The west keeps its sunsets. The north has the calm, and as a couple, that is often what you come for.

Sunset facing Es Vedrà, from Cala d’Hort beach

Cala d’Hort is still my favourite cove for watching the sun go down behind Es Vedrà. The beach faces the rock, about 2 km offshore. As the sun drops, the water turns copper. You sit on the pebbles until the outline of Es Vedrà turns black.
Many guides have not yet caught up with two changes. Torre des Savinar and the Es Vedrà viewpoint have been closed to the public since February 2025: the landowners blocked the car parks and banned access on foot, and signs now mark private property and a nature reserve (Noudiari). The beach car park then closed from 18 May to 19 July 2026, for lack of agreement between the owner and Sant Josep council. It reopened on the owner’s decision alone, with no guarantee for the future. The two free car parks promised by the council were still not open at the end of July (La Voz de Ibiza). No regular bus serves the cove.
The takeaway: arrive at least an hour before sunset, or go by sea (next idea). For your moment together, bring a blanket and a bottle of Ibiza wine, or book a terrace table at El Carmen, on the beach. If the stories told about this rock intrigue you, they are in our article on the legends of Es Vedrà.
Sunset from a sailing boat

The parking problem disappears as soon as you step on a boat. I have done several sunset trips, in Ibiza and in Formentera, and it is the format I recommend first to couples. The boat cuts its engine offshore and the crew pours a drink. The coast darkens before the sea does, and you watch the sun go down with nobody in front of you.
Three trips leave from Sant Antoni, each with a different style:
- the cruise with a live saxophonist, adults only, from €39 per person;
- the sunset over Cala Salada and Cala Gració, with a swim, from €80;
- the sailing boat with open bar, the quietest of the three, from €95.
Avoid “boat parties” if you want time together: the price is the same, but the atmosphere is a nightclub at sea. To compare other trips, see our guide to boat trips in Ibiza.
A day in the north, around Portinatx
This is where I go back to most often as a couple. The north of Ibiza has the island’s most beautiful views, and half as many people as the west. Start with a morning swim at Cala Xarraca. The water is very clear, and the sun goes behind the cliff in the early afternoon. Then go on to Portinatx lighthouse and have lunch at Rebrots, in the village: the menu changes with what the kitchen garden produces, a few metres from the tables.
For the evening, Los Enamorados, on the seafront, is a small adults-only hotel-restaurant. It has only nine rooms, colourful vintage decor and a terrace facing the water. Book the dinner table several days ahead in summer. If you want to stay nearby, Six Senses, above Cala Xarraca, has a 1,200 m² spa; other addresses are in our selection of boutique hotels in Ibiza. A car is almost essential in the north: buses are rare.
A massage on the beach
A couples massage to the sound of the waves is one of the simplest moments to arrange. For quality, Cala Jondal, on the beach club side, is the beach I recommend: I tried it two summers running, at Tropicana. At Ses Salines, the roaming masseurs near Sa Trinxa start at around €15 for 30 minutes. Quality varies: ask to see the table and the oils before you lie down. In the north, Los Enamorados offers massages in its old boathouse, right by the water.
If you want your own cove, mobile therapists come to the beach of your choice, for €90 to €140 per treatment. In July and August, book them 48 to 72 hours ahead. Addresses and contacts are in our article on beach massages in Ibiza.
A couples spa, facing the sea or among orange trees
The island’s most beautiful spas are in hotels, and several accept outside guests by booking:
- Hacienda Na Xamena (Sant Miquel): the “Cascadas Suspendidas” circuit is a series of stepped pools on a northern cliff, about 180 m above the sea. La Posidonia spa sells packages for outside guests, open April to October (2024 prices: from €105 per person without a massage to €320 with an 80-minute massage and dinner).
- Six Senses (Portinatx): a 1,200 m² spa with hammam, where three of the five treatment rooms are designed for couples.
- Atzaró (between Santa Eulària and Sant Joan): a Balinese spa with sauna and hammam, set among 13 hectares of orange trees.
- Aguas de Ibiza (Santa Eulària): the Revival spa, on the seafront, reachable without a car from town.
2026 prices are only given on request: ask for the “couple” package by email before you come, it is rarely shown online.
An almost empty cove: Cala Llentrisca
In the south-west, past the village of Es Cubells, a road winds down through a housing estate and stops. You park at the end, and a path of about 700 m follows the cliff to the cove (Sant Josep council). There is no chiringuito, no shower and no lifeguard: bring water, good shoes and something to eat. The pebbles and the effort of the walk put most visitors off, which is the whole point for two. Go in the morning, while the cliff still gives shade.
Atlantis, the other wild cove in the area, can no longer be reached legally on foot: the path crosses private land. You get there by boat, as explained in our article on Atlantis.
A day together in Formentera

Formentera is 30 minutes by fast ferry from Ibiza port, for around €25 to €30 per person each way. On the island, distances are short and the water has a colour you do not find in Ibiza. One of my most beautiful memories as a couple: Cala Saona at sunset, from a boat. The bay is calmer than during the day, and the sun sets over Es Vedrà on the horizon.
To see that sunset, you have to stay the night or return by private boat: the last ferry often leaves too early. If you are coming back the same day, the small-group sailing trip with beach stops (from €140 per person) avoids the morning ferry crowds. The options are detailed in our comparison of Ibiza-Formentera trips and in the ferry guide. To spend a night, see our boutique hotels in Formentera for couples or, for a special occasion, our selection of luxury hotels in Formentera.
Dalt Vila at dusk

Walk up through the Portal de ses Taules around 6pm, when the heat eases and the cruise groups have left. The 16th-century walls, a Unesco World Heritage site since 1999, frame sloping lanes up to the cathedral. The best moment is at the top, on the bastions, when the harbour lights come on below. Then head back down for dinner in La Marina, or take a ten-minute taxi to Talamanca.
To see the old town with a guide without wearing out your calves, the e-bike tour goes up to the walls (from €125 per person).
Benirràs at sunset, or by kayak
Benirràs is a deep cove in the north-west, facing the rock known as the Finger of God. On summer Sunday evenings, drums have echoed here since the 1970s, and the beach fills up accordingly. For a moment together, choose another evening, or settle on the rocks to the left of the cove. The car park is tiny: in summer, the bus is the safest option (see the best sunset spots).

For something different, kayak trips leave Port de Sant Miquel in the late afternoon. They follow the caves along the coast and finish at sunset off Benirràs, from about €60 per person for three hours. Just above the port, Can Marçà cave takes about 40 minutes to visit if you arrive early.
A seafront dinner
These tables need booking, especially for the sunset slot:
| Restaurant | Where | Why go as a couple |
|---|---|---|
| Amante | Sol d’en Serra, near Cala Llonga | Clifftop terrace facing the sea, open April to October |
| Sa Punta | End of Talamanca bay | View of floodlit Dalt Vila, rooftop for a drink afterwards |
| Sunset Ashram | Cala Conta | The busiest sunset in the west, bookings from 3pm |
| Hostal La Torre | Cap Negret, Sant Antoni | Same sunset, much calmer atmosphere |
| Los Enamorados | Portinatx | Small waterside terrace, adults only |
For the sunset, ask for a front-row table when you book: it is the one thing that really changes the evening. More addresses, by village, are in our selection of the best restaurants in Ibiza.
Something different: clifftop yoga, horse riding, a hot-air balloon or a photo shoot

For a memory unlike everyone else’s:
- Yoga on a cliff, then cava in a cove near Cala Gració: from €39 per person, rated 4.9/5.
- Sunrise hot-air balloon flight: from €250 per person. The most expensive on the list, best kept for a special occasion.
- Horse riding: Can Curreu, an agroturismo near Sant Carles, has its own riding centre. You ride into the hills straight from the hotel (see our selection of agroturismos).
- Photo shoot: the half-day island tour stops at Sa Caleta, Es Cubells and the Es Vedrà viewpoint, photos included (from €95 per person). Cheaper than a private photographer.
Where to stay in Ibiza as a couple: which area for which couple
The island is 45 km long, but the atmosphere changes completely from one coast to another. First choose the area for what you want to experience together, then the hotel.
| Area | Which couple | Where to stay | The downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| The north (Portinatx, Sant Joan, Sant Miquel) | Peace, nature, spa | Six Senses, Hacienda Na Xamena, Los Enamorados, Can Pardal | Car essential, south and Ibiza Town 30-40 min away |
| The countryside (Santa Gertrudis, Sant Llorenç) | Fincas, gardens, quiet dinners | Atzaró, Ca Na Xica, Can Sastre | Away from the sea: 15 to 20 min to the nearest beach |
| Ibiza Town and Talamanca | No car, restaurants, nightlife | Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, Montesol, The Standard | Noisier in summer, town beaches |
| The west coast (Sant Antoni, Cala Codolar, Cala Vadella) | Sunsets every evening | Petunia, Paradiso | Sant Antoni very lively in July-August |
The north is my choice for a stay as a couple. Its small roads lead to coves without buildings, and its hotels are among the most beautiful on the island. To the two addresses already mentioned, add Can Pardal in Sant Miquel: a five-room old house right next to the village church. In the evening, you walk to the terraces without getting back in the car. The other inland fincas are in our selection of agroturismos in Ibiza.
Ibiza Town suits couples who do not want to drive. Dalt Vila, La Marina and Talamanca can be done on foot or by taxi, and the ferry to Formentera leaves from the port. In the west, I have stayed several times at Paradiso, in Sant Antoni bay. It is a lively hotel, with people in the lobby and around the pool: if you are after intimacy, it is not the right choice. For a couple who loves design and atmosphere, on the other hand, it is great. And with a wink, Sant Antoni also has its love motel, Romeo’s.
Over a week, the best compromise is to split your stay in two: three nights in town or in the west, then three or four in the north. The area-by-area detail is in our guide where to stay in Ibiza.
When to go to Ibiza as a couple
June and September are the two best months for a stay as a couple: the sea is warm, restaurants and spas are open, and prices stay well below August’s. May and October are quieter still. Avoid August if your plans revolve around sunsets: the car parks at Cala Conta, Benirràs and Cala d’Hort are full an hour before.
| Month | Air (afternoon) | Sea | Sunset | For a couple |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 23 °C | 18-20 °C | Around 9pm | Quiet, water still cool |
| June | 27 °C | 22-24 °C | Around 9.25pm at the end of the month | The best balance |
| July | 30 °C | 25-26 °C | Around 9.15pm | Hot, already very busy |
| August | 30 °C | 26-27 °C | Around 8.50pm | Crowds, highest prices |
| September | 28 °C | 25-26 °C | Around 8pm | Warm sea, the island empties |
| October | 24 °C | 22-23 °C | Between 7pm and 8pm | Very good until mid-October |
Out of season, many places close: the Na Xamena spa and Amante only open from April to October. From November, check every booking, especially in the north. The rest of the calendar is detailed in our article when to go to Ibiza and Formentera.
A romantic weekend or 4 days: the itinerary
The weekend (2 nights), based in Ibiza Town or Talamanca
- Day 1: arrival, walk up to Dalt Vila around 6pm, dinner at Sa Punta facing the floodlit old town.
- Day 2: in the morning, Cala Llentrisca on foot from Es Cubells. In the afternoon, a massage at Cala Jondal, 20 minutes away. In the evening, sunset over Es Vedrà from Cala d’Hort, or on a sailing boat from Sant Antoni.
- Day 3: clifftop yoga near Cala Gració in the morning, then the airport (25 minutes).
4 nights: two in town, two in the north
- Day 1: Dalt Vila and La Marina.
- Day 2: the south-west (Cala Llentrisca, massage at Cala Jondal, sunset over Es Vedrà).
- Day 3: Formentera by fast ferry from the port, back in the late afternoon.
- Day 4: head north. A swim at Cala Xarraca, lunch at Rebrots, then sunset at Benirràs (by kayak or from the rocks). Dinner at Los Enamorados.
- Day 5: the Na Xamena spa in the morning, then the airport (40 minutes from Sant Miquel).
For this itinerary, hire a car at the airport: buses to the north are rare and do not serve the coves (see getting around Ibiza). If you have an extra day, our 5-day Ibiza itinerary adds Las Dalias market and the east coast.
Budget for two: three ways to enjoy Ibiza as a couple
Example for 4 nights, excluding flights, car and meals.
| Item | Savvy | Comfort | Treat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation (4 nights) | €600 to €1,200 (intimate finca such as Can Pardal, €150 to €300 a night) | €1,000 to €1,400 (boutique hotel early or late in the season, €250 to €350 a night) | €1,600 to €2,400 (Atzaró, €400 to €600 a night) |
| Sunset at sea | €78 (saxophone cruise) | €160 (Cala Salada and Cala Gració) | €190 (sailing boat with open bar) |
| Formentera | €70 to €140 (return fast ferry) | 70 à 140 € | €280 (small-group sailing boat) |
| Massage or spa | €30 (30-min massage at Ses Salines) | €180 to €280 (mobile therapist on the beach) | €640 (Na Xamena, 80-min massage and dinner, 2024 price) |
| Indicative total | About €800 to €1,450 | About €1,400 to €1,950 | About €2,700 to €3,500 |
The item that changes the bill the most is the hotel, not the activities. The most beautiful moments on this list, such as Cala d’Hort at sunset, Cala Llentrisca or Dalt Vila in the evening, are free. It is up to you whether an extra night in the north or an extra trip at sea is the better spend.
My verdict, after several stays as a couple
For a romantic stay, I recommend the north, and Portinatx in particular. I have been several times as a couple and I go back each time with the same pleasure. The coastal views are sublime. There are amazing hotels with spas, very good restaurants, and lovely sunsets too. Above all, it is much less busy than the west, even in high summer. You swim at Cala Xarraca without hunting for a spot for your towel, and you dine by the water without booking a month ahead. The only real drawback: you need a car.
The west is something else. It has the island’s most spectacular sunsets, and Cala d’Hort facing Es Vedrà is still my favourite cove for that. But in July and August you will not be alone: car parks full an hour before, crowds on the beach, and Torre des Savinar is no longer accessible. To enjoy it as a couple, I advise going outside summer, or seeing it from a boat. I have done several sunset trips and it is the best way to get the view without the crowds.
As for the hotel, treat yourselves to at least one night in a really beautiful hotel, with a spa and a sea view: that is when the stay truly becomes romantic. Our favourite addresses are in our selection of luxury boutique hotels in Ibiza. For the other nights, choose a more affordable hotel, such as Paradiso in the west. It is great if you love design and a lively atmosphere, even if it is not the most intimate address. My advice: mix the two, a few nights in the west for the sunsets, then end your stay in the calm of the north.
Frequently asked questions about romantic Ibiza
Which part of Ibiza is best for a couple?
The north, around Portinatx, Sant Joan and Sant Miquel. It is less busy than the west, with spa hotels facing the sea (Six Senses, Hacienda Na Xamena) and sunsets without the crowds, as at Benirràs. Ibiza Town is better for couples who do not want to drive.
Is there a legend about couples in Ibiza?
No ancient legend specific to couples is documented. The idea that Ibiza “puts couples to the test” is a recent superstition, linked to Tanit, the Punic goddess of fertility, and to the Es Vedrà rock. The island’s real legends are told in our article on the legends of Es Vedrà.
Can you still see Es Vedrà from Torre des Savinar?
No. Since February 2025, the landowners have closed the car parks and banned access on foot to the tower and viewpoint. Es Vedrà can be seen very well from Cala d’Hort beach or from a boat at sunset.
Ibiza or Formentera for a romantic stay?
Formentera is quieter and its beaches more beautiful, but it has fewer upmarket hotels and restaurants. The simplest is to stay in Ibiza and spend a day there, or even a night, to see the sunset at Cala Saona. The fast ferry takes 30 minutes.
How many days do you need for a romantic Ibiza trip?
A weekend is enough for Dalt Vila, a cove and a sunset at sea. With 4 nights, you can stay in two places (town, then the north) and add Formentera.
Is Ibiza worth it for a couple who doesn’t like partying?
Yes, as long as you do not stay in Playa d’en Bossa or central Sant Antoni. The clubs are concentrated in those two areas. The north, the countryside and Talamanca live at a completely different pace.
To see Es Vedrà even closer, the Atlantis cove and its rock-cut pools are now reached by sea, from Sant Antoni.
