Sable blanc et eau cristalline sur Platja de ses Canyes à Formentera

Beaches

Platja de ses Canyes

Just north of Es Pujols, Platja de ses Canyes is the antidote to the bustle of the neighbouring resort. A mix of sand and rocky areas, dunes and pine woods in the background, and above all no services: it is a discreet, wild beach, perfect for snorkelling and for anyone seeking peace a stone’s throw from the crowds.

Ses Canyes is at the south-eastern end of the Ses Salines Natural Park, between Es Pujols beach and Sa Roqueta. It is a beach of about 250 to 500 metres mixing fine sand and rocky sections, with sand clearly dominant. The dunes and forest protect it on the west side, giving it the unspoilt character you no longer find in Es Pujols.

About Ses Canyes

Ses Canyes is one of those discreet inlets made for escaping the crowds. The sand is fine, the water transparent, and the lack of heavy development makes it a quiet refuge just minutes from the bustle of Es Pujols. It is a beach for lovers of peace and nature, who are happy to come self-sufficient.

The rocky areas dotted along the beach make it a good snorkelling spot, and the protected dune adds character to the setting. To compare with the lively resort next door, see Es Pujols; for another, more iconic northern beach, Ses Illetes is not far.

Access and parking at Ses Canyes

The easiest way is to come on foot from Es Pujols: just follow the wooden walkways north to Ses Canyes. The path, which runs above the dunes, gives a lovely panoramic view of the beach as you arrive. A pleasant walk of about ten minutes.

For those coming by vehicle, there is a parking area nearby, followed by a wooden walkway across the dunes to the sand. As everywhere on the island, it is best to arrive early in high season. If you are coming from Ibiza, our complete guide to the Ibiza-Formentera ferry details the crossing to La Savina.

Services and good practice

Good to know before you come: Ses Canyes has almost no services. At most there is a small sunbed and parasol concession in the northern part, but no lifeguards, public toilets or restaurant. So bring your water, a picnic and sun protection.

It is precisely this bareness that makes it charming and keeps the crowds away. To eat or for more services, just head back to Es Pujols. To plan the rest of your stay, our guide to activities in Formentera and our Formentera hotel guide cover the Es Pujols area.

A few minutes away, Cala en Baster is a similar cove, even wilder.

Where to stay near ses Canyes

The cove is a few minutes’ walk from Es Pujols, making it one of the few beaches in Formentera where you can stay close by without a car.

To explore other coves in the area, the official Formentera tourism website has waymarked routes.
