Platja de Llevant

In the north of Formentera, on the Trucadors peninsula, Platja de Llevant is the wild twin of Ses Illetes. Same tongue of sand, but on the east side: here, no smart restaurants or endless rows of sunbeds, but dunes, wind and space. It is the island’s naturist sanctuary and the refuge of those fleeing the crowds on the neighbouring beach.

Platja de Llevant occupies the east side of the Es Trucadors peninsula, right opposite Ses Illetes on the other side. The beach is long, almost a kilometre and a half of sand, backed by a vast dune system. More exposed to the wind and less busy than its famous neighbour, it has a raw atmosphere and a rare calm.

About Platja de Llevant

Where Ses Illetes plays the postcard-beach card, Llevant embraces its wild character. The dunes, the sand stretching as far as the eye can see and the lack of heavy development make it a place to breathe. It is also Formentera’s naturist sanctuary par excellence, thanks to its vast spaces and tranquillity.

The beach’s east-facing orientation has a practical consequence: when the prevailing wind blows from the west, as it often does in summer, Llevant is perfectly sheltered. Conversely, with an easterly wind, the swell can build and the Ses Illetes side becomes calmer. Knowing the day’s wind lets you choose the right side of the peninsula. Its direct neighbour is Ses Illetes, a few steps away on the other side of the sandbar.

Access and parking at Platja de Llevant

You reach Llevant by the same road as Ses Illetes, through the Ses Salines Natural Park. Vehicle access is therefore regulated and paid in season, around €5 for a car and €3 for a scooter depending on the period. Once past the checkpoint, turn right towards Llevant.

As for all the park’s beaches, pedestrians and bikes go in free, and it is best to arrive early in high season before the spaces are taken. If you are coming from Ibiza, the ferry drops you in La Savina, a few kilometres away: our complete guide to the Ibiza-Formentera ferry details the crossing.

Good practice and activities

Llevant is a nature beach: there are almost no services, so bring your water, shade and picnic. It is ideal for long walks along the shore to the tip of the Trucadors, from where you can see the island of Espalmador. Lovers of peace and outdoor sport will be happy here.

The dune system is fragile and protected: stay on the marked paths to preserve it. To round off your discovery of northern Formentera, our guide to activities in Formentera and our Formentera hotel guide will help you plan your stay.

On the same peninsula, Platja des Trocadors and Es Pujols can be visited in the same outing.

Where to stay near Platja de Llevant

The Trucadors peninsula is in the natural park, so there is no accommodation. The most practical base is Es Pujols, 15 minutes by road.

  • Hotel Sa Volta (9.2/10): in the heart of Es Pujols, well placed for exploring the north.
  • Hotel Roca Bella (8.5/10): also in Es Pujols, right by the beach.
