S’Arenal (Sant Antoni)

S’Arenal is the town beach of Sant Antoni de Portmany, on Ibiza’s west coast. Within walking distance of the town centre, this 650-metre strip of sand runs along a lively seafront promenade packed with restaurants, bars and boat-trip departures. Facing due west, it has an open view of the bay and its sunsets.

Families, solo travellers and groups of friends find it a handy starting point for exploring nearby coves such as Cala Salada, Cala Bassa and Cala Gració.

In short: it is San Antonio’s main town beach, right by the town. The sand is fine and it is very long. It is very lively, with plenty of water sports on offer. It is lined by the promenade and close to the bars and nightlife areas. It is practical for people staying in town who want a beach with every service close at hand.

S’Arenal is in the heart of the bay of Sant Antoni de Portmany, on Ibiza’s west coast, a few steps from the port and the town centre.

S’Arenal: 650 m of sand facing Sant Antoni’s sunsets

S’Arenal is the main beach of Sant Antoni de Portmany and one of Ibiza’s few town beaches. It stretches for about 650 metres and is around twenty metres wide, between the Columbus Egg roundabout and Punta des Molí.

The sand is natural and fairly coarse. The seabed is sandy and gets deeper gradually, making swimming suitable for children and less confident swimmers. The water is generally calm thanks to the natural shelter of the bay.

The beach has showers, wooden access ramps along its length and areas of sunbeds and parasols for hire. Lifeguards are on duty in summer.

S’Arenal’s main asset is its location. The seafront promenade beside it has a wide range of restaurants, hotels and bars. You do not need to go far to find something to eat or drink between swims. Several well-known diving schools are based here, and you can go paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, parasailing or jet-skiing straight from the beach.

Its west-facing position is a real plus: S’Arenal has an open view of the bay of Sant Antoni, with the port’s boats in the foreground. At the end of the day, the sunset is a daily ritual, in keeping with what has made Ibiza’s west coast famous.

At the southern end of the beach, the Punta des Molí Cultural Centre houses a restored windmill, a water wheel and an old olive press. An unexpected cultural stop a stone’s throw from the sand.

S’Arenal is not a wild cove.
It is a lively, practical, well-equipped beach, where you come as much to swim as to soak up the Sant Antoni atmosphere.

Access and parking: getting to S’Arenal beach in Sant Antoni

By car from Ibiza airport, allow about 25 minutes on the main road through Sant Josep de sa Talaia. As you arrive in Sant Antoni, the Columbus Egg roundabout marks the entrance to the area: turn left and the beach appears immediately on your right. There is a free car park in the central part of the beach, near the leisure area.
In high season, spaces go fast: try to arrive in the morning.

From Ibiza Town (Eivissa), bus lines L3 (via Sant Rafel) and L8 (via Sant Josep) go directly to Sant Antoni bus station. The beach is then a few minutes’ walk from the station. It is a practical alternative if you want to avoid parking hassles in summer.

Water sports, boat trips and walks from S’Arenal

From S’Arenal, the view opens over the whole bay of Sant Antoni: the port with its boats, the coastline stretching north and, in front of you, the horizon where the sun sets every evening. It is a wide, bright panorama that changes colour through the day.

On the beach, you can rent kayaks and paddleboards or try parasailing. Several diving schools offer try dives and exploration trips to discover the west coast’s seabed.

Sant Antoni port, right next door, is the starting point for many boat trips. You can head to Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta for a half-day of swimming in clear water, sail to Cala Bassa or Cala Conta, or board a sunset cruise along the coast. Trips to the islet of Es Vedrà or to Formentera are also available.

On foot, the Punta des Molí Cultural Centre is a few minutes from the beach. A little further on, the natural aquarium at Cap Blanc (about 2 km) lets you discover local marine life in a coastal cave.

S’Arenal is not the beach for turquoise water and the calm of an isolated cove. But it is exactly where to be if you want a practical, lively beach with everything close at hand.
A morning swim, lunch with your feet almost in the sand, paddleboarding in the afternoon and a sunset over the bay to round off the day.

For those staying in Sant Antoni, it is a natural base for exploring the coves of the west coast. And if you are travelling with children, the shallow water and easy access make it a simple, reassuring choice.
