Es Cavallet

Es Cavallet is in the south of Ibiza, near Sant Josep de sa Talaia, in the heart of the Ses Salines natural park. This stretch of fine golden sand, more than a kilometre long, has turquoise water and a relaxed atmosphere. Ibiza’s first official naturist beach since 1978, Es Cavallet attracts travellers seeking unspoilt nature and freedom, just 10 kilometres from Ibiza Town.

In short: this long beach is officially recognised as a nudist beach. It is fully within the Ses Salines natural park, with impressive dunes separating it from the road. It is wilder and less developed than its neighbour. The atmosphere is very tolerant and relaxed. The water is generally very clear. There are a few bars and restaurants. It is often exposed to the wind, which can create waves. It is the go-to place for anyone looking for a natural, free place to swim.

A wild beach in the heart of the Ses Salines natural park

On the other side from Ses Salines beach, Es Cavallet stretches for about 1.2 kilometres of fine golden sand along a turquoise sea with sandy bottoms dotted with posidonia. Protected by sand dunes and dense pine and juniper vegetation, this beach has a wild natural setting. The shallow water invites a peaceful swim.

The beach is divided into three zones: the northern end draws families and expats, the centre is mostly naturist, and the southern end is home to the international gay and LGBT+ community. Ibiza’s gay scene beats loudest in front of the Chiringay restaurant. This iconic spot serves Mediterranean food and gets festive from 4pm, when the music picks up.

Sunbeds, parasols, showers, a beach volleyball net and service on the sand make Es Cavallet well equipped. El Chiringuito and La Escollera complete the food offer. The dunes behind the beach are a much-appreciated space of freedom.
On windy days, kitesurfers enjoy the waves.

Road access and parking at Es Cavallet

From Ibiza Town, allow about 10 kilometres by car. Head towards the airport, then follow the signs for Ses Salines.

The road crosses the salt flats, a picturesque landscape before you reach the beach, including the pink-tinged salt pans. There is a paid car park nearby, but spaces are limited in summer. It is best to arrive before midday to avoid parking problems. There are free spaces along the road, a few hundred metres from the beach.

Bus line 11 serves the area from Ibiza Town, Figueretas and Playa d’en Bossa. The stop is about a 20-minute walk through the natural park.

Exploring the surroundings and enjoying the view

From Es Cavallet, on clear days, the view stretches to Ibiza Town in the north and Formentera in the south.
The sunset is a remarkable show on the horizon! Right nearby, Ses Salines beach can be reached on foot along a coastal path by the cliffs. The Es Carregador defence tower stands at the southern end of the beach, a 20-minute walk away.

The historic salt pans, still worked today, offer a unique landscape with their coloured ponds and an interpretation centre in the village of Sant Francesc de s’Estany. Snorkellers like the rocky seabed at the south of the beach.
