Unusual things to do in Ibiza: 11 original experiences off the beaten track

Surfeur en efoil glissant sur la mer calme d'Ibiza près d'un yacht

Dreaming of something unusual to do in Ibiza on your next holiday? Away from the tourist must-sees, Ibiza offers more authentic, unusual and original experiences.

If that is what you are after, you have come to the right place! From secret caves to local craft workshops, from night-time stargazing to sunrise hot-air balloon flights, Ibiza also has plenty of fun things to do alone, as a couple, with the family or with friends!

Discover my selection of unusual activities that invite you to rediscover Ibiza from a completely new angle. Adventure lover, local culture enthusiast or seeker of unique experiences, here are my suggestions:

Water toys (underwater scooters, Seabob and more)

From San Antonio port, board a boat to secret coves only reachable by sea. Away from the crowds, enjoy the crystal-clear water to try the most popular water toys of the moment: Seabob and Scubajet underwater scooters, or paddleboards. Zooming through the water or diving nimbly below the surface becomes child’s play. A refreshing, adrenaline-filled outing that is a break from classic beach activities!

I tried the Seabob in 2024 and 2025, and I can tell you it is an experience you do not forget! The sensation is hard to describe: you really feel like a dolphin in the water. The speed, the thrill, the freedom to go a little further without worrying about swimming back… it is simply incredible. The only reminder the next day: a few aching forearms to prove you had fun! I even looked into buying a little underwater scooter, it is that cool!

Sunrise hot-air balloon flight: Ibiza from the sky

Nothing beats the absolute silence of the air for appreciating Ibiza’s raw beauty. Before the sun even appears on the horizon, step into the basket. The balloon rises gently to give you a 360-degree panorama. On a clear day, the coasts of Formentera and Mallorca appear in golden light. A glass of cava in flight and a country breakfast on landing crown this moment suspended in time. An unusual activity for families, friends or couples!

Diving: exploring Ibiza’s underwater mysteries

Ibiza’s waters are home to a fascinating ecosystem, thanks in particular to the Posidonia meadows (Unesco-listed) that make the water so translucent. Why not use your stay to take your PADI Open Water Diver certification? In just a few days, mixing theory and open-water dives down to 18 metres, you will learn to dive independently. A chance to explore the dizzying walls, secret caves and silent wrecks on the island’s seabed… and to explore Ibiza’s depths on your own when you come back! Jeep safari, quad, buggy: exploring Ibiza off the beaten track

Leave the tarmac behind and set off into the island’s wild interior to see Ibiza off the beaten track!
In a buggy, quad or 4×4, you take the red dirt tracks that cross pine woods and almond fields. What I loved was being guided by people who know every corner of the island, who took us to traditional villages, breathtaking sea views and isolated coves where we jumped in on a whim!
A dusty, exhilarating road trip, made for anyone with an explorer’s soul!

Ibiza, between time and space: a yoga and cava experience

Ibiza has always attracted free spirits, and “Time and Space” may be the most perfect illustration of that. I know this place, and there is something quite unique about its atmosphere. The setting is sublime and genuinely unusual, the kind of place you do not expect to find and that leaves you speechless. So even if yoga is not really my cup of tea, I completely understand why people want to spend time there, working on their postures and breathing facing a view like that, to the rhythm of the waves. The disconnection is already there just by looking at the landscape! And to round off the moment, a glass of cava, Spanish sparkling wine, or a detox juice shared in good company. A rare place, an activity worth the detour. Want to go further? See our guide to yoga retreats in Ibiza and Formentera.

A clay bath on the beach

Doing as the locals do is also what real travel is about! And in Ibiza, that includes a 100% natural, raw and completely free skin treatment. On some beaches, such as Aigües Blanques or Cala Xarraca cove, the cliffs hide mineral-rich clay. Mix it with a little seawater to get a purifying paste, and smear it over your body and face without inhibition. Let it dry in the sun, then dive into the turquoise water to rinse it all off. Your skin comes out soft, and a smile is guaranteed!

My tip: go in the morning, as the beach is in shade from 4pm because of the cliffs!

Natural pools and sunset facing Es Vedrà

Atlantis, Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort, is the kind of place that really deserves to be shared!
An old stone quarry where the rock, sculpted by both people and the sea, has formed natural pools with quite astonishing geometric shapes. If you fancy going in good company, it is an excellent idea, because access takes some effort and the adventure is clearly more fun with others. You swim in these stone-cut pools, explore the corners of the site, then climb back up to watch the sunset facing Es Vedrà.
This monumental, mystical rock rising from the water makes quite an impression when the sky starts to blaze, and sharing it with someone is even better. A great excuse for a special moment together!

A horse ride in Ibiza

To discover the more rural, unspoilt north of the island, a horse ride is a must! At a walk or a trot, you cross Ibiza’s silent valleys, ride under fragrant pines and follow steep cliffs with spectacular Mediterranean views. What I like about this activity is that it is open to everyone, beginners or experienced riders, as local stables offer routes to suit. And rides are often planned for the end of the day, to enjoy the low, romantic sunset light. A gentle, refreshing change of scene, ideal for an easy escape!

Learning to DJ: get behind the decks!

Visiting the world capital of clubbing without exploring behind the scenes would be missing something! So why not step into a DJ’s shoes for a few hours? Several schools and professionals on the island offer beginner mixing lessons, and the idea really makes me smile. Learning to match the tempo, handle the decks and understand the structure of an electronic set… You will not necessarily leave with the next David Guetta’s skills, but you will leave with a fun memory deeply rooted in Ibiza’s DNA. The kind of quirky experience you cannot have anywhere else!

Thrill-seeking activities to book in Ibiza

Buggies, hot-air balloons, water sports: the activities that get the adrenaline going, with availability checked every week.

Can Marçà caves

In the north of the island, near Port de Sant Miquel, the Can Marçà caves are truly fascinating. These ancient caves were once used by smugglers to hide their goods, and you can still see the black marks they left on the walls to find their way in the dark. A detail that immediately adds another dimension to the visit! The stalactites, stalagmites and underground waterfalls are impressive, and the guided tour ends with a sound and light show that brings this mineral world to life quite strikingly. An extraordinary place, far more surprising than you might imagine. I tried it more than 15 years ago and still have an incredible memory of its colours! I highly recommend it!

The island is full of unusual experiences and hidden treasures just waiting to be explored in 2026.

Whether you choose to rise up in a hot-air balloon at sunrise, dive into crystal-clear water on a Seabob or recharge during a yoga session, dare to step off the beaten track! These unusual activities will help you reconnect with nature and create memorable, authentic moments on your next Balearic holiday. And you, which unusual activity have you already tried in Ibiza?

What is the cheapest unusual thing to do in Ibiza?

The best free and unusual activity is still the natural clay bath. On beaches such as Aigües Blanques, you can enjoy a full spa treatment right from the cliff. It is an authentic, 100% eco-friendly experience, open to everyone with no booking.

Which original activities should you choose for a family stay in Ibiza?

For families, the Can Marçà caves are a must: children love the smugglers’ “treasure hunt” side. A hot-air balloon flight is also a magical and safe experience for children (usually from age 6), an unforgettable memory far from the club scene.

When is it best to book activities to avoid the crowds?

For very popular activities such as Seabob or the hot-air balloon, it is strongly advised to book at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead for July-August. If you want more peace, choose May, June or September: the light is sublime for photos and sites such as Atlantis are much less busy.
