Punta Arabí, Ibiza’s biggest hippie market
Punta Arabí takes place in Es Canar, on the east coast, a few kilometres from Santa Eulària des Riu. It is the island’s oldest hippie market, open since 1973, and also the biggest: more than 400 stalls spread under the pines, a stone’s throw from the sea. Every Wednesday in season.

My verdict on Punta Arabí
It was the first hippie market we did on the island, on our very first trip to Ibiza, and it is the one we recommend for a first taste: the size is impressive, the atmosphere stays friendly and there is something for everyone, children included. Our real tip comes down to one word: Wednesday, and only Wednesday.
It is the classic trap: people confuse it with Las Dalias, which is on Saturdays. Official times and the season are published on hippymarket.info.
Punta Arabí at a glance
In Es Canar, open every Wednesday from 1 April to 29 October, from 10am to 6pm or 7pm depending on the season. Free entry. More than 400 stalls, food trucks, live music and a kids’ area. It is the oldest and biggest hippie market in Ibiza, ideal for families and reachable by bus, car or boat from Santa Eulària.
Which day and what time? (2026 season)
The market only opens one day a week: Wednesday. The 2026 season runs from 1 April to 29 October.
Opening hours vary by month:
- April, May and October: 10am to 6pm.
- June to September: 10am to 7pm.
Outside this period, Punta Arabí is closed. There is no point going on a Wednesday between November and March: there is nothing to see out of season.
How to get to Punta Arabí (Es Canar)
Es Canar is well connected to Santa Eulària. Three options depending on where you are staying and how much you want to walk.
By bus
Buses link Santa Eulària des Riu and Es Canar in about fifteen minutes. Get off at the Bar Extremadura stop, a few steps from the market entrance. Times are on tib.org. On Wednesdays there are extra buses, but allow plenty of time on the way back: everyone leaves at the same time at the end of the day.
By boat
From Santa Eulària, a ferry (Santa Eulalia Ferry) reaches Es Canar in about thirty minutes, stopping at Cala Pada. It is the nicest option: you follow the coast, skip the parking and turn the journey into a mini excursion. Times change with the season, so check with the company the day before.
By car
There are several car parks right next to the market. Parking is easy in Es Canar, even on market day, as long as you arrive before midday. After that, the closest spaces go fast and you will end up walking.
What you will find at the market
More than 400 stalls normally, and up to around 500 in high season. The selection leans towards crafts and fashion, with a truly international feel: you meet designers from all over Europe and beyond.
- Clothes and fashion, from light summer wear to boho pieces.
- Handmade jewellery, silver, stones and beads.
- Leather goods: bags, belts, sandals.
- Handmade cosmetics and soaps.
- Decor, objects and crafts from all over.
Prices are a little negotiable, especially late in the day when sellers want to clear stock. Nothing aggressive, but a polite question sometimes brings the price down.
The atmosphere: music, living statues, food trucks
Punta Arabí is not just about shopping. Live music plays all day, from local artists who set up between the lanes. Living statues and street performers break up the visit, which keeps the children as busy as the parents.
For food, several food trucks serve simple Mediterranean cooking, enough to keep you going between stalls. For families, the Hippie Kids area runs workshops: flower crowns, T-shirts to customise. It is one of the few markets on the island designed for younger visitors too.
Punta Arabí, the 1973 pioneer

Punta Arabí is not only the biggest, it is also Ibiza’s first properly organised hippie market. In 1973, when the craftspeople who had settled on the island were still selling their work from improvised stalls by the roadside, Es Canar brought them together in one place, with a fixed weekly date. The hippie market as we know it on the island today was born here: rows of stalls, a day of the week everyone remembers, a public that knows where to come. Wednesday has stayed its big day for more than fifty years. To place Punta Arabí in the wider history of Ibizan counterculture, see our guide to Ibiza’s hippie markets.
Punta Arabí or Las Dalias: which to choose?
The two markets complement each other more than they resemble each other. Punta Arabí is the biggest, the most family-friendly, by the sea, and only on Wednesdays. Las Dalias, in San Carlos, is more arty and boho, with its Saturday market and summer evenings.
If you are travelling with children or staying around Santa Eulària, Punta Arabí is the easiest. If you are after a boho mood and an evening atmosphere, read our guide to Las Dalias. To compare all the options on the island, see the guide to Ibiza’s hippie markets.
Our tips for visiting
Arrive early. From 11.30am to midday the crowds get noticeably thicker and the narrow lanes become hard to get through, especially in July and August. The 10am to 11am slot is the quietest.
Bring cash: many stalls do not take cards, and the nearest cash machine can be mobbed. For the experience, come by boat from Santa Eulària rather than by car, or park early. Staying in Santa Eulària or right in Es Canar puts you a few minutes from the market and spares you the end-of-day scramble home.
